Pfeil Marking Knife

The Pfeil marking knife is an excellent tool for marking out all manner of joints in the workshop. It is used to score precise lines directly into the wood. Unlike a pencil, it leaves no graphite on the work.

The new Pfeil marking knives have a double-edged blade, so this versatile tool can be drawn along either side of a straightedge, whether held in the right or the left hand. Two sizes are offered, one for large hands and one for small.

Rockler Silicone Glue Brush

A glue brush that you’ll never have to throw away! This brush features silicone bristles that are easy to wash with water, and quickly shed dried glue for long-lasting service. They’re also spaced to hold plenty of wet glue, meaning less time dipping and more time spreading. Use the narrow dimension for edges and the wide dimension for faces. The paddle end can be used like a pen for finer detail work such as moldings, and for spreading glue into grooves and mortises.

The brush is very versatile with the silicone bristles on one end and the paddle applicator on the other. It’s easy to clean without chemical solvents – even fully dried polyurethane glue cracks and peels right off the bristles – and re-using the brush is also friendly to the environment.

When it’s time for a glue-up, simply riffle the bristles as you would a deck of cards to peel any dried glue off and restore the brush to pristine condition. Unlike traditional brushes, this one won’t shed bristles into your bead of glue. The brush is a generous 1″ wide with 1/2″ depth of bristles which are spaced to hold plenty of wet glue, meaning less time dipping and more time spreading. Since the brush is designed to last, it provides some additional features as well: The paddle end opposite the bristles can be used like a pen for finer detail work such as mortise and tenon, dovetail, and box joints, or like a spatula for spreading glue into grooves and mortises. The entire brush is waterproof, so rinsing thoroughly with warm water makes cleanup easy when glue is wet.

Technical Details:

Silicone Glue Brush measures 7” long.
The tapered brush tip measures 1” wide x 1/2” deep.
Completely waterproof – just soak it in water after your glue-up.

Well this weekend was meant to be the start of the initial workshop outfit, but my chest infection had other ideas!

3 days in hospital and my body feels as though it’s been run over.

Workshop will have to wait

World Woods Library

Just looking at types of wood on the internet, it was either that or Britains Got Talent!

Types of Wood won.  I found this excellent site which has every wood type, cut and named into the size of a standard book.  Book size: 13 x 9 x 2.6 cm

Its a wonderful idea and would or should I say wood look fantastic on a bookcase

Amazing – Moroccan Bow Lathe

I was searching YouTube for videos on making Bandsaw Boxes and Found this

This young woodturner Mostopher Dnouch can be found plying his trade in the medina of old Marrakech. With just one tool (a skew chisel) he turns a chess piece on a bow lathe that would have been a familiar sight in ancient Greece or the Pharaoh’s Egypt.

Woodworker or Craftsman

Anybody can become a woodworker, but only a Craftsman can hide his mistakes!

Hello world!

I have always wanted to produce something from wood.  The colours, texture and flexibility is just unrivalled.  My passion started when I was a boy but during my working life, the family and home came first.  Now my girls are growing up and its time to convert the garage into a workshop.

I know its going to be a steep learning curve but I’m up for the challenge!
